Dr. Del Carmen has been practicing orthodontics exclusively in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 14 years. She believes a great smile is important for optimal health, function & self-esteem. Dr. Del Carmen attended Bullard High School in Fresno, CA, where she ran cross country & played soccer. She received a B.S. from UC Davis in biological sciences. While at Davis, she played on the women’s soccer team, made lifelong friends & discovered she really liked science. She received a D.D.S. from the University of California, San Francisco in 1990. Here in SF, she worked part-time for UCSF doing dental research, ran a lot of 10Ks & discovered a great city. She practiced general dentistry in Sunnyvale, CA for four years before starting her orthodontic residency. During this time, she volunteered at the Palo Alto Humane Society where, alongside the City Veterinarian, she performed dental procedures on animals. She later attended the University of Detroit Mercy, where she received a certificate in orthodontics & an M.S. for her thesis exploring jaw growth & development of adolescents. After many years as an orthodontist, Dr. Del Carmen is still excited about braces. She has been known to teach kids about the physics of tooth movement & cool titanium wires!
